Imagine lazy summer days lounging in a secluded cove, relaxed bicycle rides along the promenades and bracing cliff-top walks in picturesque surroundings. This is all reality in Margate, which steadily is becoming a great draw for UK's LGBT community. This British costal destination, located in the South East of England, is truthfully a summer paradise, yearly attracting thousands of joy-filled gays and lesbians to partake in the Margate Thanet Pride.
Last year, Margate again played host to its annual pride event on the sea front in Marine Drive. This was held on the 18th of July, 2009 and boasted live entertainment, fair ground rides, cabarets, markets and stalls. The whole Margate Pride was as always a free event, aimed to attract not only the LGBTQ community but also a great day out for families looking to join in from the local community and beyond.
A warm welcome awaits the participants of this year’s Pride when Margate's seafront once again becomes a huge rainbow of colourful flags, dazzling costumes and a myriad of music and laughter. Taking place on 24th July, this extravaganza will include stalls and a fun fair as well as superb stage entertainment with “The Pride Icons Show” featuring first-class tributes to Lady GaGa, Freddie Mercury, ABBA, Karen Carpenter, and George Michael, along with top drag performer Kitty Monroe and London Band Moon Shot.
