De film Emo the Musical gaat over een conflict tussen Worst Day Ever, een schoolband die emo rock speelt, en Hope Group, een clubje puriteinse christenen.

Een van de verhaallijnen gaat over Peter, die lid is van Hope Group, maar worstelt met zijn seksualiteit. Hij ondergaat een elektroshocktherapie om zichzelf te ‘genezen’ van zijn homoseksuele gedachten. Maar dan ontmoet hij Josh...

Het lied ‘Electrified’ is een aanklacht tegen homofobie en de wijze waarop conservatieve gelovigen aankijken tegen homoseksualiteit en conversietherapie.

Emo the Musical is gemaakt door Neil Triffett, die met de film een universeel coming-outverhaal wil laten zien. Hier een fragment uit de tekst, gevolgd door de video.
